Dear Ben, It's Your Dad

Dear Ben,

Can you believe July has already arrived? It seems every year that days and months pass by faster and faster. Maybe it has to do with the planet’s rotation also getting faster. Everything at the speed of light makes sense, since we are all pure energy, pure light, but that’s another story for another time.

Son, I’ve been writing these letters to you so you’ll have these early memories to read some day. I’m a bit behind in writing them; actually I’m behind in all my writing even though I’ve been writing like mad for over a month. You see, your Dad is volunteering once again for the Young Men’s Adventure Weekend that takes place this coming weekend July 10-12. I’m the communications manager for about 125 young men and men this year. I’ve been promoting YMAW everywhere, even Tweeting to Oprah Winfrey in hopes of getting the founder of YMAW, Brad Leslie, on the show one day to share his vision. I’ve simply been pumping up the energy for the weekend and working hard to give my best.

So YMAW is the reason your Dad is on the phone and computer so much these past few weeks. It’s work that’s very important to all the men involved, all the families and myself. It’s our responsibility to give back to the community and take an active role in the lives of our young men. Having you as my son makes this work that more important. I hope to continue leading by example for you, as do the friends and family we surround you with. I already witness the way you interact with other children and adults, I’m very proud of the little man you already are and continue to grow into.

So son, I want to thank you for your love and understanding over the last month. In five days Dad will be gone for a weekend wilderness adventure and I will come home a rejuvenated and inspired man. Get ready to make up for some of our play time together. I can’t wait to share the stories and experiences with you and one day, to attend the adventure together!

As I write this I’m watching your two-year-old fingers trying to maneuver the computer mouse to find the folder full of Thomas the Tank Engine episodes. Yesterday you were reading and spelling words, today you are trying to take over the internet. It’s all passing by so quickly.
